SpaceX has created a new business unit - the Starshield division, within which it plans to interact with the US Department of Defense. It is reported by Defense News.

It is noted that within the framework of Starshield, users from the US national security sector can count on "additional highly secure cryptographic capabilities" for the secure processing and transmission of data based on Starlink satellite technology, as well as the creation and launch of new satellites for communication and observation of the Earth's surface.

According to Defense News, the satellite systems developed by Starshield will be compatible with existing military spacecraft. In addition, the new division may be entrusted with the development of space platforms that allow the launch of "payloads" in the interests of national security.
