Android virus disguised as banking apps

Dr.Web specialists have found applications on Google Play that steal users' personal data. This is reported by BleepingComputer.

From the report of analysts it follows that one of these programs turned out to be TubeBox. “She promises monetary rewards for watching videos and ads in the app, but she never delivers on her promises,” the authors noted. According to experts, when trying to withdraw the money earned, the application gives an error.

Dr.Web also found applications disguised as clients of financial institutions and banks in the Android smartphone store. Malicious programs, among other things, were targeted at Russian users. Among them were applications with the names "GazProgramma", "GosResursy", "MySavings", "VTbroker" - virus programs pretended to be the official software of well-known financial organizations. According to experts, in total, fraudulent applications had about two million downloads.

“These apps were promoted with malicious ads through other programs, promising a guaranteed return on investment. In fact, they redirect users to phishing sites where their personal information is collected, ”the journalists emphasized.

At the end of October, McAfee specialists talked about 16 Android apps that made money on fake advertising actions. In total, fraudulent programs received more than 20 million downloads.
