Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called on Greece to abandon the deployment of weapons on the islands in the Aegean Sea, which are considered demilitarized in accordance with international agreements, TASS reports.

He warned that Turkey would not ignore threats against it.

“He who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind! Either Greece will take a step back and follow the agreements, or Turkey will take the necessary measures,” he said, specifying that this will happen one night and unexpectedly.

At the end of September, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the transfer of armored vehicles by Greece to the islands of Midilli (Lesbos) and Sisam (Samos) in the Aegean Sea, which have the status of demilitarized. In this regard, Ankara stated that Athens is placing military equipment there in violation of international agreements, including the Lausanne (1923) and Paris (1947) treaties.

Earlier, the NYT wrote that the conflict between Turkey and Greece could lead to a split in NATO.
