Turkey is eliminating the threat of terrorism emanating from northern Syria, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, quoted by TASS.

“If the threat of terrorism comes from the north of Syria, we will eliminate it there,” Erdogan said.

He implied Turkey's plans to conduct a ground operation in northern Syria against the forces of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) based there, which Ankara has declared terrorist.

According to Erdogan, Turkey is taking the necessary measures in Idlib and Kobani and intends to continue to do so.

As Erdogan noted earlier, the goal of the operation that Turkey plans to carry out in the adjacent territory is to complete the creation of a 30-kilometer security line.

Turkish media claim that the new operation will allow Ankara to ensure control over the 600-kilometer section of the border with Syria, as well as to minimize terrorist threats emanating from the adjacent territory.

Earlier, Erdogan said that Turkey will complete the creation of a "security zone" 30 km from its southern borders.
