A court in Iran has sentenced five protesters to death. This was reported by the IRNA agency.

According to the investigation, 16 people were accused in the case of the murder of a vice police officer in the city of Karaj. Five people were sentenced to death. Another 11 people, including three minors, received long prison terms (up to 25 years).

The agency notes that the sentences can be appealed to the country's Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Iranian Interior Ministry said that at least 200 people were victims of unrest in the country. According to human rights activists, at least 320 people died.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, amid ongoing protests in the country, allowed for the possibility of amending some articles of the constitution of the Islamic Republic, which was adopted in 1979. Iranian authorities have abolished the country's vice police after more than two months of protests that began after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was detained for wearing the hijab incorrectly.
