Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said his country is being criticized for being “excessively” close to Russia only by those who simply have nothing more to say. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“If it is easier for someone to criticize us and say that we are close to Russia, this is just a way to criticize someone when you have nothing to add,” the Serbian leader said.

He also added that earlier there were reports in the media that Serbia, allegedly on Russian instructions, would launch an attack in the Balkans in order to cause "instability and problems" in the region.

“But we refuted this, not with our statements, but with our deeds,” Vučić stressed.

Earlier, Vučić said that the relationship between Russia and Serbia could not be destroyed “under any pressure”, since the countries are bound by fraternal relations.

He also stated that he would support sanctions against Russia only if Serbia ended up with a “sword of Damocles” over its head.
