Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the cancellation of the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel (the organization is included in the list of foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice) in Latvia is an example of the illusion that somewhere outside of Russia is better and freer.

“All the time it seems to someone that somewhere is better than at home, and all the time it seems to someone that there is freedom somewhere, but not freedom at home. This is one of the clearest examples that demonstrates the fallacy of such illusions,” Peskov said.

On December 6, the Latvian National Electronic Media Council decided to revoke the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel "due to a threat to national security and public order."

On December 2, the head of the Latvian National Media Council, Ivars Abolins, announced that Dozhd had been fined 10,000 euros due to the appearance on the TV channel of a map on which the Crimean peninsula was included in Russia.

Later, Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks announced the start of preparations for the expulsion of Dozhd journalists.
