Ukraine announced EU assistance in curbing the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said on his Twitter that the European Union is ready to provide the necessary assistance to contain the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

“The EU is ready to provide the necessary support and humanitarian assistance to mitigate the consequences of this Russian-engineered disaster,” Kuleba wrote after talking with the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

On the night of June 6, in the Kherson region, the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed near Novaya Kakhovka. Dozens of settlements, including Kherson and New Kakhovka, began to be flooded with water.

Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of destroying the dam. There is also a version that the accident occurred due to "old damage". The Ukrhydroenergo company stated that the station was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

Defense Minister Shoigu accused Kyiv of undermining the structures of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv physically could not blow up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station from the outside.

Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko said at a video conference with colleagues from Western countries that the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will affect the entire hydroelectric complex in the region and lead to an increase in the country's electricity imports.
