The Russian Foreign Ministry called the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP) by Kiev a pre-planned terrorist act, which is directed against purely civilian infrastructure. This was reported on the website of the Foreign Ministry.

As stated in the ministry, this attack "was pre-planned and purposefully" by the Ukrainian authorities "for military purposes as part of the so-called counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

“The Kiev regime not only subjected the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station to massive shelling, but also deliberately brought the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir to a critical level by opening the floodgates of the Dnepropetrovsk hydroelectric power station,” the department added.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, Sergei Shoigu, said that Kyiv blew up the constructions of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which led to the flooding of the territories.

The minister also pointed out that the Ukrainian side discharged water from the Dnepropetrovsk hydroelectric power station to further flood the territories, which indicates that Kyiv had planned a large-scale sabotage in advance.

On the night of June 6, in the Kherson region, the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed near Novaya Kakhovka. Dozens of settlements, including Kherson and New Kakhovka, began to be flooded with water.

Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of destroying the dam. There is also a version that the accident occurred due to "old damage". The Ukrhydroenergo company stated that the station was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
