The non-election of Belarus to the UN Security Council (SC) will not reduce the activity of the republic in the organization. This was stated by the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the country Anatoly Glaz, BelTA informs.

“We will continue to prepare for participation in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, which will open in September this year, and in all related high-level events,” Glaz commented on the voting results.

He also expressed gratitude to all countries that supported granting Belarus the status of a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and stressed that Minsk would continue to promote initiatives "which have long been known in the UN."

According to RIA Novosti, Belarus lost to Slovenia in the election of non-permanent members of the organization for 2024-2025. To obtain status, a state needs to gain two-thirds of the votes of the participating states or 128 votes. 153 countries voted for Slovenia, 38 for Belarus.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General António Guterres invited President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to take part in the summit on sustainable development goals scheduled for September. The Belarusian leader assured that the republic would participate in the summit and actively contribute to its preparation.
