President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv physically could not blow up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station from the outside. His words are quoted by Strana.ua.

“For more than a year now, Russia has controlled both the dam and the entire Kakhovskaya HPP. It is physically unrealistic to blow it up from the outside - by shelling," the Ukrainian president said.

According to him, the dam was mined and blown up by Russian forces.

On the night of June 6, in the Kherson region, the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed near Novaya Kakhovka. Dozens of settlements, including Kherson and New Kakhovka, began to be flooded with water.

Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of destroying the dam. In particular, the Kremlin called the incident "Ukrainian sabotage." The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said it plans to convene the UN Security Council on this situation. There is also a version that the accident occurred due to "old damage". The Ukrhydroenergo company stated that the station was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
