Due to the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), there may be a shortage of water for the operation of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). Professor of the Higher School of Hydropower Construction of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Doctor of Technical Sciences Viktor Elistratov told Lente.ru about this.

According to the expert, one of the consequences of the destruction of the energy facility may be a disruption in the operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

“Those facilities that provide technical water supply for cooling the Zaporozhye NPP are located in separate reservoirs, the so-called spray pools. If there are connections there, there will be some danger in terms of cooling the ZNPP reactors, since the ZNPP is located in the jumping part of the Kakhovka reservoir,” he explained.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, after the incident promised to come to the ZNPP. According to him, due to the lack of water supplies for cooling pools, the operation of the nuclear power plant may stop. At the same time, a ZNPP representative in an interview with RBC said that the water level in the cooling pond has not changed and is 16.67 meters.
