The water level in the Kakhovka reservoir was raised from 14 to 17.5 meters shortly before the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP) burst and flooded. This became known from the data of the French monitoring portal Theia-land.

According to the schedule posted on the portal, in March the water level in the reservoir remained at around 14.6 meters. Over the next two months, it began to rise and reached 17.5 meters by June 21, after which it dropped to 17.3.

This fact is an indirect confirmation of the fact that the Zaporizhia hydroelectric complex began a massive discharge of water since March, significantly raising the level of the Kakhovka reservoir.

Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region was partially destroyed on the night of June 6. As a result, there was an uncontrolled discharge of water from the Kakhovka reservoir. The head of the government of the Kherson region, Andrei Alekseenko, said that there was no threat to people's lives. According to him, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the authorities control the situation.
