Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP).

“The President receives reports from the Ministry of Defense and other services on the Kakhovskaya HPP. We are talking about a deliberate sabotage by the Ukrainian side. This sabotage can lead to very serious consequences for several tens of thousands of residents of the region, environmental consequences and others,” Peskov said.

According to him, "sabotage set as one of the goals to deprive the Crimea of water."

He added that it was due to the fact that "having started large-scale actions ... the Ukrainian forces did not achieve their goals."

On the night of June 6, in the Kherson region, the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed near Novaya Kakhovka. Dozens of settlements, including Kherson and New Kakhovka, began to be flooded with water. Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of destroying the dam. There is also a version that the accident occurred due to "old damage". The Ukrhydroenergo company stated that the station was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine proposed to convene an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP).
