NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance at the summit in Vilnius plans to intensify assistance to Ukraine. He announced this at the Bucharest Nine summit in Bratislava, Reuters reports.

“We will step up assistance to Ukraine with a multilateral package that will bring Ukrainian forces to NATO standards and bring Ukraine closer to NATO,” he said.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the lack of decisions in favor of Ukraine at the summit in Vilnius would be a defeat for NATO. He announced this at a press conference.

Kuleba, at a joint press conference with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna, also said that the Membership Action Plan (MAP) should not prevent the country from joining NATO, since this mechanism "has outlived itself."

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian authorities, has every right to "fight for Euro-Atlantic security" without being a member of the alliance.

According to the minister, Kyiv understands that it cannot dictate decisions to NATO.
