An investigation by the Belgian authorities into the use of local weapons by Ukrainian saboteurs during an attack on the Belogorod region is unlikely to lead to serious consequences. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel.

The Russian ambassador is confident that Belgium will not stir up a scandal with the use of its weapons in an attack on Russian territory. “In fact, everything is already clear. Photos went around the world showing saboteurs in the Belgorod region, who penetrated from Ukrainian territory, holding rifles produced in Wallonia by the arms concern FN Herstal,” the diplomat said.

According to him, one should hardly expect any "serious consequences" of the investigation that was announced by the Belgian authorities regarding the use of weapons.

Earlier, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said that he instructed the special services to clarify the issue of using the weapons transferred to Ukraine in the attack of a sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG) in the Belgorod region.

Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder and Foreign Minister Aja Labib will appeal to Kyiv with a demand to explain the reasons for the use of Belgian weapons by Ukraine in the Belgorod region.

On June 3, the Washington Post wrote about a breakthrough into the Belgorod region from Ukraine. The publication indicated that Kyiv used American, Czech, Polish and Belgian vehicles and weapons. Belgian SCAR assault rifles were also seen in the hands of the Ukrainian military.
