Russia will have to rebuild the partially destroyed Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, as well as other infrastructure damaged during the hostilities. It is necessary to demand compensation for this work from Western countries that supplied Ukraine with weapons. This was stated by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“We will have to restore both the hydroelectric power station and other infrastructure. Our investigating authorities will need to establish with what exactly the explosion was carried out: with the help of the Alder MLRS or Western weapons? In the latter case, it is necessary to demand compensation from the West for the restoration of infrastructure,” Chepa is sure.

He noted that it is no longer so important whether Western countries agree to compensate for the costs of restoration. In any case, Russia should put forward this demand.

“In any case, you need to demand. And, it's hard to demand. It should be remembered how [the former head of the USSR Nikita] Khrushchev pounded his heel on the UN podium. You have to knock,” the politician stressed.

The partial destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP became known on the morning of June 6. According to the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, the night strikes led to the destruction of the valves. Because of this, water began to uncontrollably be discharged downstream. He called the incident a terrorist attack.

The mayor added that as a result of the incident, about 300 houses in Korsunk and Dnepryan below Novaya Kakhovka were in the zone of possible flooding after a breakthrough. Local authorities also urged residents to prepare for evacuation.
