The United States called the detention of Georgian citizens at a rally in Tbilisi on June 2 "incompatible with the values of the Euro-Atlantic family." This statement was made by US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel during a briefing.

"Lack of tolerance for dissent is incompatible with the values of the Euro-Atlantic family of nations, which the majority of the population of Georgia wants to join," he said. The representative of the State Department believes that "the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights and the foundation of democracy."

On June 2, an opposition rally was held in Georgia, the participants of which accused the country's authorities of pro-Russian course. Eight people were detained by police outside the country's parliament building.

In March, the last person detained at protests against the law on foreign agents in Tbilisi was released on bail. The court released the accused on bail of 3,000 lari (more than $1,100). He was detained for assaulting a police officer on the night of March 8.

Earlier, the US State Department expressed concern about the restoration of direct flights between Russia and Georgia and threatened that Georgian companies could be subject to sanctions.
