Attacks on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP), as a result of which water began to be discharged uncontrollably downstream, are a serious terrorist attack, Novaya Kakhovka Mayor Vladimir Leontyev said, TASS writes.

According to him, the consequences of the incident will be studied. “Once again, I would like to emphasize that this is a serious terrorist act,” he said. Authorities added that there is no need to evacuate civilians in connection with the incident yet.

Leontiev said that the surface structures were destroyed. The strikes were carried out from the side of Ukraine on the night of June 5-6, around 02:00. They destroyed the valves. “As a result, water from the Kakhovka reservoir began to uncontrollably be discharged downstream,” the politician added.

An increase in the water level in the Dnieper was announced by Telegram channels. It became known about the destruction of the dam.
