The operation of the Express-AM5 satellite, which is designed, among other things, for transmitting data for television and radio broadcasting, mobile communications, telephony and multimedia, was limited due to a failure in the thermal control system loop. This is stated in the message of the company "Space Communications", reports TASS.

“June 3, 2023 at 04:30 Moscow time, the liquid cooling circuit of the thermal control system of the Express-AM5 spacecraft (hereinafter referred to as the SC) failed, which led to the excess of the threshold thermal operating modes of the SC,” the message says.

The company clarified that together with the ISS named after M.F. Reshetnev, who created the apparatus, measures were taken to avoid overheating of the satellite and maintain its performance. “In accordance with the operational documentation and recommendations of the chief designer of JSC Reshetnev, a part of the transponders was turned off,” said Space Communications. It is noted that after that the device continued to work, but the availability of its payload was partially reduced.

Space Communications added that some users continue to receive services via satellite, while the rest were offered to switch to Express-AMU3 and Express-AMU7 devices. Some of them have already made the transition, work with the remaining users continues.

Earlier it became known that the Reshetnev company planned to release a satellite a week. The production of Gonets-M1 and Skif devices weighing from 100 to 1000 kilograms will be put on stream.
