Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the words of US national security adviser Jake Sullivan that Washington is ready to conduct a dialogue with Moscow on arms control without preconditions.

“This is an important and positive statement. Of course, we expect that it will be supported by steps, then it will be possible to consider the proposed formats of dialogue, ”said the Kremlin spokesman.

He noted that Russia remains open to dialogue, "but first you need to understand how the proposal is formulated."

Earlier, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said at the annual meeting of the Arms Control Association that the country's authorities are ready to conduct a dialogue with Russia and China on arms control without preconditions. According to him, the US is "ready to work with Russia on how to manage nuclear risks and develop a post-2026 arms control architecture" without waiting for the bilateral "disagreements" to be resolved.

On June 2, Sullivan said that Washington was ready to adhere to the quantitative restrictions under the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) if Moscow was ready.
