A Lithuanian citizen was detained at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, who was trying to smuggle ammunition into the territory of Belarus. This was reported to BelTA by the State Border Committee of the Republic.

The department reported that the 26-year-old Lithuanian entered the country in a private car, in which border guards found caches of ammunition: 10,000 Lapua brand bullets and more than 2,000 Lapua Magnum brand shells.

The State Border Committee of Belarus added that the illegal movement of ammunition across the border provides for imprisonment for up to ten years.

On June 1, Minsk tightened control along the entire perimeter of the country's border. The chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of the republic, Lieutenant-General Ivan Tertel, specified that the measures are aimed at "timely identification and localization of the activities of persons harboring terrorist, extremist aspirations" in relation to Belarus.
