U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CNN that Washington does not see conflict or a cold war with China as inevitable.

According to him, the United States and China are striving to "prevent competition from escalating into conflict."

“One of the key elements is that along with intense competition, we support intense diplomacy,” Sullivan said.

In this regard, the assistant to the American leader noted that on May 10-11, he met with the head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of China (CCP), a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi.

He indicated that the Washington authorities expect that "in the coming months, this work will continue, and high-ranking US officials will interact with their Chinese counterparts." Sullivan also expressed hope that these contacts will facilitate a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We are confident that it is impossible to talk about the inevitability of a conflict or a cold war between the United States and China,” he said.

Earlier, Politico wrote that US attempts to persuade the world to fight China are failing.

Prior to this, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said that the United States and China should cooperate, and not seek to restrain a competitor.
