The commander of the NATO mission in Kosovo KFOR, Angelo Michele Ristucci, called it a mistake that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, appointed Albanians as heads of municipalities in the province with a Serbian majority. The statement was made by the military in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

The military noted that the appointment of heads of municipalities, who are not recognized by the population, should not have been made without consultation with the international community.

“The second unilateral action of the Pristina government was the use of force without consulting us, which made our intervention necessary,” Ristuccia said.

Italian journalists noted that, if not for the intervention of NATO, the Serb protest in Kosovo could have resulted in a massacre.

According to Ristucci, both sides of the conflict in Kosovo use destructive rhetoric and "fail to capitalize on the goals achieved over the years as a result of the incredible efforts of international diplomacy."

“When there is an agreement, it must be implemented. But without any dialogue, it remains a dead letter. It is based on mutual distrust. Pacta sunt servanda. It would be enough. But they can’t do it,” the commander of the NATO mission described the situation.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported that the country had begun deploying a battalion of special forces in Kosovo at the request of NATO.
