Gigabyte motherboards have found an unrecoverable critical vulnerability. This was reported by experts from the agency Eclypsium.

The company's experts found a backdoor in Gigabyte motherboards - a built-in defect that allows unauthorized access to data. According to experts, the reason for the appearance of the backdoor lies in the insecure implementation of the firmware update function, due to which attackers can launch malware without the knowledge of users.

The problem concerns 270 Gigabyte models - the agency noted that the vulnerability could threaten the security of millions of consumers. According to Eclypsium engineer John Lucaides, users can find out their motherboard model by opening the Start menu and going to System Information.

Eclypsium specialists noted that they reported the Gigabyte backdoor and offered their help in fixing the vulnerability. Representatives of the motherboard manufacturer confirmed that they are working on a solution to the problem. "If you don't trust your motherboard firmware, you're building your house on the sand," Crash Override security agency spokesman Rich Smith commented on the issue.

In July 2022, security experts discovered a vulnerability that allows Gigabyte and ASUS motherboards to be secretly infected with a virus. Experts noted that using the new method, hackers have already attacked users from China, Russia, Iran and Vietnam.
