European leaders at the summit of the European Political Community asked the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MIAEI) of Moldova, Nicolae Popescu, to bring them two kilograms of cherries. The words of the minister are reported by the Moldovan publication Realitatea.

“Whether jokingly or seriously, some delegates asked me to bring a couple of kilograms of cherries the next time I visit them. They really said that our cherries are excellent,” said Popescu.

The minister noted that all the heads of European states were satisfied with the visit to Moldova, and added that in order to fulfill the request, he would have to find out from which region of the country the cherries were brought to the summit.

Earlier, the chairman of the opposition Moldovan party Shor, Valery Klimenko, called the summit a political sabbath. “We believe that this is a show staged by the Europeans as a sign of support for Sandu, who is striving for the European Union,” Klymenko said.
