The Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF) borrowed much from NATO tactics, which were used, in particular, in Afghanistan, Iraq and other conflicts. For example, the military uses mobile groups to break through the most vulnerable places in the defense. This was told to Lente.ru by a military expert, combat veteran, captain of the first rank of the reserve Vasily Dandykin.

“In the Ukrainian military conflict, we see the classic schools of warfare, which are different from what we were preparing for, based on the experience of combating terrorism. Here, for example, there are elements of even the First World War with very serious defense on both sides, ambush tactics and so on. There are also elements of NATO tactics,” Dandykin said.

According to him, NATO often uses mobile groups, light armed pickup trucks, and armored vehicles in military conflicts. Their task is to find bottlenecks in the defense and make a breakthrough.

This tactic was used, for example, by the formations of Kyiv in the Kharkov and Liman directions in the fall: breakthroughs were made in places with fragile defenses. But now the situation is somewhat different. Similar methods could be used in Afghanistan, Iraq, but here it is fraught with consequences.

Dandykin said that now sabotage and reconnaissance groups are trying to enter the territory of Russia using 2-3 armored vehicles, pickups, 1-2 tanks. Having lost most of their equipment and personnel, they leave, although earlier they managed to surround the Russian groups.

“The fact is that now all this is no longer as effective as in the fall. Now we strike, localize, use aircraft and artillery. Of course, NATO also sees this, not only we will change combat instructions, but they too, ”concluded the military expert.

Earlier, the commander of the "Crimea" battalion said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the battles in the Zaporozhye direction began to use combined tactics of warfare, both the "Soviet school" and the introduction of NATO methods are visible. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine mainly use Soviet-made equipment, but they use NATO ammunition.
