Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin pointed out that Ukraine would cause great harm to the European Union if it did not extend the agreement on the transit of Russian gas after 2024. His words are quoted by TASS.

In addition to the damage to the EU countries buying gas from Russia, in this case, Ukraine itself will “shoot itself in the foot”, since Galuzin considered losing dividends from transit.

“Such a situation will have a negative impact on the energy independence of Europe, but will undoubtedly cause the joy of Washington, which seeks its economic and political dependence and seeks to profit as much as possible from the Ukrainian crisis,” the diplomat said.

At the same time, he explained that at the moment there were no notifications from Ukraine about a possible non-renewal of the agreement, but Moscow would not be surprised by this. “The Kiev regime views absolutely all areas of its activity exclusively through an anti-Russian prism and is ready to take any steps to harm Russia,” Galuzin added.

Earlier, the former head of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV, Gerhard Reuss, said that Ukraine would support the transit of Russian gas to Europe through its territory until the contract with Gazprom expires at the end of 2024, but does not intend to renew the agreement.
