The Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TsNIItochmash), which is part of the Kalashnikov concern, has fulfilled a contract for the manufacture of the largest batch of pistol armor-piercing cartridges in recent years. This was reported by the press service of the concern.

"Manufactured ammunition - 9x21 mm cartridges with a bullet with a steel core (index 7N29) - have increased penetrating power and are designed to defeat enemy manpower, including in personal protective equipment," the statement said.

It is noted that the cartridge bullet consists of a heat-strengthened steel core, a lead jacket and a bimetallic shell, from which the nose of the core protrudes. This reduces the energy loss of the core for the destruction of the shell of the bullet. Due to this, the bullet has a high penetrating effect.

The ammunition, which was developed by TsNIItochmash specialists in the second half of the 1990s, is intended for the entire line of weapons chambered for 9 caliber by 21 mm.

In May, the chief designer of Kalashnikov, Sergey Urzhumtsev, said that the concern had already transferred the PPK-20 submachine gun to the Russian Aerospace Forces to equip a wearable emergency supply.

In the same month, the head of the Lobaev Arms enterprise, Vladislav Lobaev, said that Russia had replaced the import of the 10.3x77mm Cheytac sniper cartridge.
