After the destruction of the medium landing ship (SDK) "Yury Olefirenko", which became the last combat ship of the Naval Forces (Navy) of Ukraine, Kyiv will have to rent a fleet. The consequences of the destruction of the ship by the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia were assessed by retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk in an interview with Izvestia.

According to him, the destruction of the ship indicates the completion of the task in one of the directions of the demilitarization of Ukraine.

“This ship did not pose any threat to us, the very fact that we fully completed the task in one of the directions. Now, if Ukraine wants to do something at sea, it will need to rent a fleet from its allies, ”the expert said.

The project 773 medium landing ship was launched under the designation SDK-137 in 1970. The ships of this project were built for the Soviet Navy in Poland. The ship's arsenal included WM-18 multiple launch rocket launchers and an AK-230 artillery mount.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the last warship of the Ukrainian Navy was destroyed as a result of a strike by a precision weapon of the Russian Aerospace Forces on May 29.

The captain of the first rank of the reserve, Vasily Dandykin, expressed the opinion that the loss of Yuriy Olefirenko was of no particular importance, and the Ukrainian fleet would not have been able to go to sea in any case, since it would immediately have been sunk.
