Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young revealed the specs of Apple's mixed reality (MR) headset. This is reported by MacRumors.

According to the specialist, Apple's virtual and augmented reality helmet will be equipped with two Micro OLED displays - for each user's eye. The screens will have a diagonal of 1.4 inches, a brightness of 5000 nits and will have a density of 4000 pixels per inch. The new device should be announced at WWDC 2023 on June 5th.

With a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, Yang noted that the VR and AR headset "won't dazzle users" but will provide "superior contrast and brighter colors." MacRumors journalists noted that existing virtual and augmented reality helmets have much less bright displays: for example, HoloLens 2 received a brightness of 500 nits, PSVR 2 from Sony - about 265 nits.

“If the headset does indeed have a brightness of 5000 nits, its device will offer display capabilities that competitors cannot match,” the authors noted. Also, journalists noted that high brightness will ensure good HDR performance.

At the end of May, insiders said that the cost of producing an Apple headset with support for virtual and augmented reality would not exceed $1,600. In this case, the device will appear on sale at a price of 3000-4000 dollars.
