Representatives of Google Corporation said that they stopped the development of one of the foldable smartphones. This is reported by the publication PhoneArena.

The journalists referred to information from the Made by Google podcast, which is run by company employees. In the current issue of "Pixel Perfect: A look at the design of Google's latest devices," the engineers and designers of the American IT giant admitted that a concept foldable smartphone was in development, which they had to cancel.

According to experts, the active development of the device was carried out for a certain time, but at the testing stage, the release of the gadget had to be abandoned. The company said that they had to stop the production of a folding device due to the fact that it did not meet Google's quality requirements.

“I am proud that our team showed discipline and did not release one folding model. We acknowledged that it was not designed up to the mark,” said Ivy Ross, vice president of design at Google.

As part of the podcast, company representatives did not disclose the names of the device and its form factor. However, PhoneArena journalists suggested that Google was developing a compact folding Pixel Flip device, which could be presented in a clamshell format.

Google announced its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, in mid-May. The device, which received the main 7.6-inch OLED display, was estimated at $ 1,799, or about 145 thousand rubles.
