The Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) can use footage posted on the Internet by Russians of the operation of the air defense system (Air Defense) for military purposes. So the danger of publishing these photos and videos on the network in a conversation with Lenta.ru was explained by military expert Alexei Leonkov.

How can the Armed Forces of Ukraine use photos and videos of Russians?

When such frames are published, they have metadata that shows the time and date of shooting, and most importantly, the coordinates. From them you can determine where the position of this anti-aircraft missile system was

Alexey Leonkov military expert

“Any modern cell phone provides this data. If the phone is shooting such an object, then you can calculate the distance from the shooting location to the object. You know the location of the phone that was filming, and then by simple calculations you determine where this complex was located. Most likely, this data will be used so that the next time, when laying a route, you do not stumble upon this complex, ”the analyst explained.

Is it possible to calculate air defense geodata differently?

According to Alexei Leonkov, it is almost impossible to track the location of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) during their operation.

“It is not always possible for an electronic intelligence station to detect the work of our radar stations (RLS). They tried to figure out the positions of the Shells and Thors. "Torah", for example, cannot be detected at all under any circumstances. The time of their combat work is three to five seconds. During this time, not a single technical intelligence station that hangs out in space will be able to conduct reconnaissance, ”he said.

On May 30, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a drone attack on the territory of Moscow and the Moscow region. The ministry blamed the Ukrainian side for the incident. Three drones were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control and deviated from their targets. Five more devices shot down an air defense system in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said drones damaged three houses in the capital by crashing into them.

Kyiv denies any involvement. “We watch with pleasure and predict an increase in the number of attacks, but, of course, we have no direct relationship,” said Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine.

After the incident, several State Duma deputies immediately announced the danger of publishing photos with air defense work and drones overflight. Deputy Chairman of the Information Policy Committee Andrey Svintsov urged citizens not to post such footage on social networks. Also, Andrei Gurulev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, proposed introducing criminal liability for filming a drone flight.
