Named an effective way to protect against ransomware

Data protection firm Veeam Software has come up with a way for netizens to prevent ransomware attacks. This is reported by Techradar.

Ransomware attacks, which encrypt data on a computer and require a ransom, should be prevented, the company says. Veeam experts advised consumers to regularly back up data on their computer and not store valuable information in one place.

After conducting a survey among their customers, the authors of the report found that many users are effectively protected from this type of attack, as they have the daily data backup function configured. But cybercriminals know this too—according to the company's study of 1,200 organizations that were the victims of nearly 3,000 cyberattacks, 93 percent of the time, attackers attempted to gain access to named backups.

Experts noted that even payment of the ransom does not guarantee that hackers will return access to data. Thus, 59 percent of users who agreed to the terms of the ransomware were unable to restore personal data or unlock the computer.

At the end of March, BI.ZONE specialists found out that cases of hacker attacks using encryption programs have become more frequent in Russia. These attacks often target private companies, but ordinary users can also be affected.
