The American corporation IBM has announced plans to build the most powerful quantum computer. This is reported by the MIT Technology Review.

Company representatives spoke about their plans at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan. According to the engineers, within 10 years they must create a computer for 100,000 qubits. The new device will bring quantum computing to the realm of full-scale operations, where technologies can potentially solve problems that conventional supercomputers are powerless to solve.

IBM will partner with the University of Tokyo and Chicago. The corporation will allocate $100 million for the project. “I call it quantum-centric supercomputers,” Jay Gambetta, IBM vice president of quantum computing, described the quantum computer of the future.

Also speaking to the MIT Technology Review, IBM representatives emphasized that even a large investment of $100 million does not guarantee success. “There is definitely a risk,” Gambetta admitted.

According to the authors of the media, IBM is not the first to plan the creation of "the most powerful quantum computer." Earlier, Google announced that they intend to create a computer with a million qubits, but only 10,000 qubits will be allocated directly for computing.

At the end of February, scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) proposed a new way to transfer data and cool quantum computers. The specialists placed the computer in the refrigerator and set up communication with it via a wireless protocol.
