Russia, thanks to the Kondor-FKA-M satellite, will be able to take radar images of the Earth with the resolution of Google Maps. This was announced to RIA Novosti by Alexei Rabochiy, chief designer in the direction of the Joint Directorate of Space Systems of the Scientific and Production Association (NPO) of mechanical engineering.

The specialist called the main feature of the new generation satellites “the change in the geometry of the radar to an oblique cutout scheme and the replacement of the horn feed with an feed with an active antenna-feeder array.”

“Including this, it fundamentally changed the main characteristics of radar imaging, increased the angles of electronic scanning along two planes, which makes it possible to achieve a resolution of up to 0.5 meters in detailed shooting,” the designer specified.
