Today, tectonic geopolitical shifts are taking place in the “Greater Middle East” due to the fact that the region has become the object of active and successful diplomacy from Beijing, which has become an extremely unpleasant surprise for Washington.
In order to appreciate the scale of change, we will give a very brief history of the issue in the first part.

Part I. “Formatted, formatted, but never formatted”

“Greater Middle East” is not only, and not so much a geographical term denoting the area approximately from the Maghreb to Iran, but the American project of reorganizing the region, starting from the coming to power of pro-Western liberal forces, ending with the fragmentation of the territories of states.
We will not now discuss all the stages of this plan, the beginning of which was the invasion of the United States and allies in Iraq in 2003, then the “Arab spring”, the de facto destruction of the Libyan statehood, the civil war with the active participation of external forces in Syria…
The military mutiny in Turkey in 2016 was, apparently, from the same series.
Yes, and there are also certain questions about the emergence of the terrorist organization ISIS and its numerous “branches” in the region.
Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, and for a long time, Syria, turned out to be in a failed state, although even now Damascus does not control significant territories.

The main principle of Washington was the age-old divide et impera - Riyadh was pitted against Tehran, Ankara against Riyadh, the Gulf countries against Qatar, and so on.
The key goal of the “Greater Middle East” project was, of course, to ensure the predominant influence of the United States in the region, the accompanying task was to guarantee the security of Israel, as a key regional ally of the United States.
The “icing on the cake” was the Abraham Accords, signed in 2020 between Israel and the Arab countries - the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco - with the support of the United States in order to establish diplomatic relations. In 2021, Sudan formally joined the agreements, as did Egypt, which already had a peace treaty with Israel since 1979.
The defeat of Donald Trump in the presidential election (prior) stopped the implementation of the “deal of the century” between Israel and Palestine in the framework of the concept of “two states for two peoples” and, of course, at the expense of Palestine. The latter had to cede to Israel part of its internationally recognized territory along the entire border with Jordan in exchange for certain economic preferences and investments.

Even in a very brief summary, one can cite many factors, unaccounted for or underestimated by Washington, that have led the Greater Middle East project to its current impasse, despite a number of successes at the initial stage of its implementation.
Washington faced:
the need to spend huge surplus resources to control Iraq;
the low combat effectiveness of the forces trained by American instructors [except for the Kurds, who traditionally had good military training and high motivation];
high internal political stability of Iran;
Moscow's willingness to come to the aid of Damascus, which radically changed the situation in the war in Syria;
the growing influence of Russia and Iran in the region;
serious foreign policy ambitions of Ankara under President Erdogan;
the exit of Riyadh from American political influence and the willingness of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to disregard Washington's loyalty in favor of economic gain;
the high level of Israel's independence under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, etc.
In addition, the “Afghan case” has become very indicative for the countries of the region, where a regime absolutely loyal to Washington was left to fend for itself.

In a situation where Washington in the region went over to “military-political defense”, the powerful appearance of the Red Dragon on the stage made a sharp change in the situation.
China's approach at this stage can be described as "reconcile and rule" - acting as the guarantor of peace agreements, Beijing receives the most serious influence in the "Greater Middle East".
Continued in Part II.
