Three Britons are in custody in Afghanistan, SkyNews reports, citing the British Foreign Office.

“Three Britons are in the custody of the Taliban (an organization banned in Russia) in Afghanistan,” the report said.

According to the channel, we are talking about Kevin Cornwell and another unnamed British citizen. Also, The Telegraph newspaper reported the name of the third detained Briton - Miles Routledge. He was detained on March 2 along with two Polish citizens.

It is noted that Cornwell was detained for illegal possession of weapons in a safe at his home - however, his family claims that a license was issued for the weapons.

“We are making every effort to ensure consular access to British citizens who are detained in Afghanistan, and we support their families,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement.

Earlier, Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada ordered courts in Afghanistan to impose punishments for a range of crimes under Sharia law, which includes limb amputations, public flogging and stoning in some cases.
