The head of the European Foreign Ministry, Josep Borrell, "joked" in connection with the transfer of the chairmanship of the UN Security Council to Russia, calling April 1 a suitable date for this, RIA Novosti reports.

“The beginning of Russia's chairmanship of the UN Security Council is suitable for April Fool's Day. Despite the fact that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, it constantly violates the very essence of the legal framework of the UN,” Borrell said on social networks.

Russia became the chairman of the Security Council on April 1 for a period of one month.

As Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, said, the key topics of the upcoming meetings will be issues of multipolarity, settlement of the situation in the Middle East and the problem of uncontrolled arms exports. The topic of the Ukrainian crisis will also be on the agenda.
