The day before, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation reported that Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of espionage in the interests of the American authorities. According to investigators, the journalist collected information constituting a state secret about one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex. The Lefortovo Court of Moscow arrested him for two months.
