Egypt and Syria are moving forward in restoring diplomatic relations, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to the publication, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad may meet in April, after the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan - this year it ends on April 20.

It is noted that the head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry Faisal Mikdad paid a working visit to the capital of Egypt for the first time since the spring of 2011 on Saturday, April 1. The meeting was official - issues of bilateral relations were discussed together with the Egyptian colleagues - as well as the restoration of Syria's membership in the League of Arab States (LAS).

Earlier in February 2023, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri went on a visit to Turkey and Syria.

Sameh Shukri's trip coincides with the visit of the speaker of the House of Representatives of the African state Hanafi el-Gebali to Damascus, the purpose of which is the 34th conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union
