WSJ: Egypt and Syria are making progress in restoring diplomatic relations
Egypt and Syria are moving forward in restoring diplomatic relations, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad may meet in April, after the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan - this year it ends on April 20.
It is noted that the head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry Faisal Mikdad paid a working visit to the capital of Egypt for the first time since the spring of 2011 on Saturday, April 1. The meeting was official - issues of bilateral relations were discussed together with the Egyptian colleagues - as well as the restoration of Syria's membership in the League of Arab States (LAS).
Earlier in February 2023, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri went on a visit to Turkey and Syria.
Sameh Shukri's trip coincides with the visit of the speaker of the House of Representatives of the African state Hanafi el-Gebali to Damascus, the purpose of which is the 34th conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union
