A poll conducted by the Center for Fundamental Rights, a Budapest research organization, showed that Prime Minister Viktor Orban remains the most popular politician in Hungary, TASS reports.

“Viktor Orban enjoys the support of 58% of voters, while his opponent in last year’s elections [opposition coalition candidate] Peter Markey-Zai can count on the support of only 18%,” the study says.

It is noted that the majority of respondents credit Orban with peaceful rhetoric and position regarding the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the desire of the Hungarian government to fight unemployment, inflation and poverty.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the countries of the European Union are close to discussing the topic of sending "peacekeeping-type" troops to Ukraine.

According to him, earlier it was an "uncrossable border", however, a year ago, European countries discussed whether lethal weapons should be sent to Ukraine. Orban noted that, just as then, Hungary said no.
