Stephen Walt, a professor of international relations at Harvard University, columnist for the American Foreign Policy magazine, wrote in his article that the staff of the administration of US President Joe Biden did not understand in time the importance the Russian Federation attaches to events in neighboring Ukraine and could not do everything possible to stop hostilities.

The author notes that the American administration "did not understand that Russia views the trends in Ukraine as an existential threat." According to him, the US did not do everything it could to prevent hostilities in the country.

The political scientist noted that it is no longer possible to know whether hostilities could have been avoided "if the United States and its European allies had tried to respond more seriously and creatively to Russia's security concerns," and also stopped insisting that Ukraine would one day enter the North Atlantic Alliance. .

In addition, Walt added that the US presidential administration's concept of opposing "democracy versus autocracy" in international politics creates more problems for US diplomacy than it solves.

Earlier, Stephen Walt wrote in an article for Foreign Policy that the administration of US President Joe Biden is afraid of a multipolar world.
