Chairman of the commission on international affairs and national security of the National Assembly (upper house of parliament) of Belarus Sergei Rachkov said that Russia's decision to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory does not violate Minsk's international obligations, and is also a deterrent from the point of view of external threats to the territorial integrity of the Belarusian state . The corresponding interview was broadcast by the TV channel "Belarus 1".

“This is a serious step on the part of Belarus and Russia. I want to emphasize that the Republic of Belarus does not violate its international obligations in this area,” he said, noting that the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons “is a very serious deterrent for those who have any thoughts regarding the territorial integrity of the Republic of Belarus.”

Earlier, columnist and writer Keir Giles said that the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus helped deter the West from fully supporting Ukraine.
