NATO's intentions to create an army of up to 300 thousand people near the borders with Russia can undermine the unity of the alliance due to excessively high costs for their implementation. This is reported by the newspaper Politico.

“The number [of troops] will be large, some officials talk about 300,000 NATO troops,” the article says.

According to the newspaper, in order to train such a large number of soldiers, they need not only to be given weapons and ammunition, but also to be trained and taught the nuances of military affairs, which requires thousands of different ammunition. Already, NATO countries are noticing their lack in connection with the shipment to Kyiv of most of their defense stocks.

“The current level of ammunition consumption [in Ukraine] is untenable compared to their level of production,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement.

The article states that NATO defense ministers "will present amended plans for the alliance's regional defense in the spring." They need to be finalized and agreed upon by the alliance's summit in Vilnius on July 11-12.
