Japan and Germany have agreed to continue imposing sanctions on Russia because of its special military operation in Ukraine. This was stated by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida following extended government consultations with the German delegation, TASS reports.

“We reaffirmed the importance of further adoption by Japan, Germany and like-minded countries of strong sanctions against Russia, as well as assistance to Ukraine,” the politician said.

He also added that Tokyo shares the position of the West regarding the inadmissibility of threats and the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons.

At the same time, Kishida added that in order to achieve a world without nuclear weapons, dialogue is necessary between all countries that have such weapons, including the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that it is necessary to make it impossible to circumvent EU sanctions against Russia. According to him, the European Union will continue sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
