Putin signed a law on imprisonment up to 12 years for smuggling weapons to foreigners

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on criminal liability for illegal export from Russia or transfer to foreign citizens of military goods, technologies, weapons or equipment. The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

With the corresponding law, amendments are introduced to Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Illegal export from the Russian Federation or transfer of raw materials, materials, equipment, technologies, scientific and technical information, illegal performance of work (rendering of services) that can be used in the creation of weapons of mass destruction, weapons and military equipment”).

The law provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment from three to seven years. In the case of the group's activities by prior agreement, using their official position or in relation to weapons of mass destruction, the punishment will be 5-10 years. For the corresponding act as part of an organized group, the punishment is in the form of imprisonment from seven to twelve years.

Earlier, Putin signed a law on criminal liability for discrediting participants in a special operation, regardless of their status, as well as for spreading fake news about them.
