German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that "no one is above the law." He announced this at a press conference in Tokyo, reports Reuters.

“The International Criminal Court is the right institution to investigate war crimes... The fact is that no one is above the law, and this is becoming clear right now,” he said.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin "historic".

On March 17, the Pre-trial Chamber of the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the Russian President and Ombudsman for Children Maria Lvova-Belova due to possible involvement in “illegal deportation and displacement of the population, in particular children,” from Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin considers the decision of the ICC "insignificant" and is outraged by the very posing of this issue.
